[ARCHIVED] Construction has Started on the Public Safety Facility

This week, crews are putting up fencing, disconnecting power to the building, and moving the last few things out. This is all happening to prep for the demolition of the building, which is scheduled to start Monday, May 6.

Fencing up and construction trucks ready at the old fire station
Demolition Schedule:
Monday - Friday
May 6 - May 24

Construction Hours:
Monday - Saturday 7am - 8pm
Sundays 8am - 7pm

Please note, there are no plans for demolition/construction work to be done over the weekend in the next few weeks. We will let you know if that changes.

What is the Public Safety Facility?

The new facility will be the future home of our Police and Fire Departments. It will help us implement public safety best practices, support health and safety initiatives, support our paid-on-call duty crew model, and build on our community engagement.

Why a new building?

When the planning process started, we looked at this project as a remodel and addition to the current fire station. As we went through the structural analysis, it was determined that the footings/foundation and shape of the existing building couldn’t support adding a 2nd floor, which we needed to accommodate the current and future needs of our Police and Fire Departments.

Tearing down the Fire Station and building a new building ended up being nearly identical in cost as a remodel/addition and provided other long-term benefits like:

  • more efficient use of space
  • long-term maintenance for new building is more cost effective
  • reduces construction timeline
  • provides flexibility for the future
