This week the fire station was demolished. Crews began sorting the materials.
What is happening next week?
Crews will continue the demolition process and sort materials. Here is the breakdown of what happens to the materials once they are demolished:
Masonry & concrete material: these items will be taken to a local ready mix plant to be processed and recycled for future use
Steel members: steel materials will be taken to a steel recycling facility to so the raw material can be melted down and reformed, or reused
Copper materials: these items will also be processed at a recycling facility similar to the steel
All other materials: all other materials will be taken to a waste company and sorted further. Any items that can be salvaged will be sent on for additional recycling at this point
