Whoops

You might have seen 2 emails in your inbox Thursday night with the subject line "Information on Your Subscriptions." We accidentally forgot to change a setting when we were uploading our 2025 membership list into our email server. You can disregard those emails and know that you will continue to get all of our membership updates like this one.

Brick City Bonspiel

Silhouette of a mystery curling team

Save the Brick City! Registration numbers are low, and the spiel is at risk of cancellation. We'd like to try to get to 12 teams to hold the event.

This is an open bonspiel with a 3-game guarantee.  The event runs from March 13-15 (Friday games TBD).  Food is provided on Saturday.

Curling Rules Refresher

We've had some questions come up about some of rules of play, so we thought this would be a good time for a reminder on a few things.

  • Hogline violations – Make sure you are releasing the rock prior to the leading edge of the rock touching the hogline.
  • Burned rocks – When rocks are touched by sweepers prior to the far hogline the rock should be taken out of play immediately.  If touched after the far hogline let the rock play out and the opposing Skip has the decision to make on replacing all displaced stones that may have been hit, letting the burned stone sit where it stopped, putting it to the place they feel it would have stopped had it not been burned or removing it from play.
  • Sweeping an opposing teams rock past the T-Line – Only one member of an opposing team can sweep a rock (or rocks) that are moving behind the T-Line.

Spring Leagues

Spring league information is posted on the website.  Registration will be open March 2-22. Spring and summer leagues are a great time to get some extra games in, curl with some different folks, try a new format (maybe Triples!?!), or introduce new people to the game.

We will offer 2 Futures (beginner) leagues this spring. We're hoping to bring in a new wave of people fresh off the Olympic boom! Chat it up with your friends, coworkers, or relatives. Help introduce our wonderful sport of curling to more people!

Lessons with Lionel

Curling staff member and instructor Lionel Locke has offered to make Monday mornings available for members looking to get curling lessons on a topic of their choice. He can assist with hack set up, delivery, slide, release, exercises to help with flexibility, sweeping, etc.!

We'll start with these dates:

  • February 16
  • February 23
  • March 2
  • March 9
  • March 16

Lessons are 45 minutes between 9:30 a.m.-Noon. $25/person, up to 4 people. Payment should be made to the Curling Center.

Email Lionel with specific questions. Reminder that he doesn't work everyday, so be patient with response times. The Curling Center can also help book the reservation: curlingcenter@chaskamn.gov or (952) 227-2475.

League Make-up Games

League make-up games can be scheduled on March 16-18, 6 or 8 p.m. Curling Center staff will assist with ice reservations.

Other dates and times are certainly available. We might have open sheets on weekends, sometimes at nights, and during the weekdays. We are happy to explore options for you! We like to see teams making up missed games and getting a full season in.

Club Nationals

Club Nationals are just around the corner - March 25-29. Good luck to teams still out there competing for a chance to make it!

We'll likely be looking for volunteers to help with the event, especially with timing. We'll send out a link from USA Curling to sign up when that's ready. Thank you for supporting the event and our Chaska host teams!
